Virginia Tech’s already taken to the field without J.C. Coleman for two of the first three games this season. Saturday, they’ll be able to officially add to the running back’s DNPs.
On the Hokies’ injury report for the Marshall game, Coleman has been ruled out against the Herd Saturday. The running back, who had been expected to shoulder a significant portion of Tech’s running game load, had already missed two of the first three games this season due to a pair of ankle sprains, including the high-ankle variety, he suffered during the middle of summer camp.
In Coleman’s lone action of the season, he rushed for 38 yards on seven carries in a Week 2 win over Western Carolina.
It appears that Coleman could’ve gone against the Herd if necessary, but the fear was the sophomore would tweak the ankle ahead of next Thursday’s ACC opener against Georgia Tech. Coleman acknowledged earlier this week that he rushed himself back for the Western Carolina game.
With Coleman sidelined, Trey Edmunds assumed the role of Tech’s top back, leading the Hokies with 242 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
