Jim Mora loves Shaq Evans’ ‘competitiveness… spirit’

Jim Mora AP

All of those who thought Jim Mora was going to be up in arms over the bravado of one of his players, put your hands down.  You had it all wrong.

During a radio interview Wednesday, Bruins wide receiver Shaq Evans lit into cross-town rival USC and its current struggles, labeling their on-field missteps of late as “awesome” and declaring that his team wants to “embarrass” the Trojans.

Asked Thursday about Evans handing their rivals bulletin-board material, Mora claimed that he wasn’t even aware of the pot stirring on the part of one of his players.  Presumably speaking in generalities because (winkwink nudgenudge) he hadn’t heard about Evans’s comments, Mora did say “I love his competitiveness, I love his spirit.”

Mora added, “We’re worried about New Mexico State. I don’t follow some of that stuff.”

So there you have at it.  As the great Lt. Frank Drebin was wont to say…

Mora sounds like a coach who doesn’t mind a player giving out bulletin board material because he knows UCLA is going to destroy USC. Quietly, UCLA looks like a top 5 team. Good for them.
