Buckeyes to again sit Braxton Miller

Not that it really matters, but Ohio State won’t have its starter under center when it feasts on an FCS cupcake early this afternoon in Columbus.

Braxton Miller, ESPN reported late Saturday morning, will not play for the Buckeyes in their game against Florida A&M. Instead, senior Kenny Guiton will make his second consecutive start.

Miller has been hampered by what’s being called a sprained MCL he suffered in the Week 2 win over San Diego State. Earlier this week, head coach Urban Meyer stated that Miller would play if he’s healthy, with Meyer saying a couple of days later he expected the junior to see the field against the Rattlers.

The move to sideline Miller for another week is not exactly a surprise given the level of competition combined with the Big Ten opener against Wisconsin a week from today.

In his first career start last week against Cal, Guiton passed for 276 yards and four touchdowns while adding 92 yards on the ground. He was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Camp National Offensive Player of the Week following the performance.

UPDATED 10:39 a.m. ET: Very shortly after posting this, Paul Keels reported on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus that while Guiton will start today against A&M, Miller will play at some point in the game. Keels added that “reports that Braxton Miller has already been ruled out are ‘wrong with a capital W.’”

UPDATED 11:29 a.m. ET: As it turns out, the report that reports of Miller not playing being “wrong with a capital W” was itself wrong as Ohio State confirmed a short time ago that the quarterback has indeed been ruled out for today’s game.
