Love the Drake! Touchdown, blocked punt builds Alabama lead

The homecoming of Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain has not exactly gone smoothly, but Colorado State is far from being trounced by Alabama. Perhaps Nick Saban is going easy against one of his former assistants. Alabama has been from dazzling in the first half but there is no question who the better team is on the field in Alabama’s home opener. At the half, Alabama leads Colorado State 17-0.

Alabama took a lead late in the first quarter when they capped an 84-yard drive with a short touchdown run by Kenyan Drake. Drake would later block a Colorado State punt early in the second quarter, which was recovered in the end zone for another touchdown.

Alabama’s starting running back T.J. Yeldon sat out the first quarter to serve a suspension resulting from his throat slashing gesture last week against Teas A&M. A.J. McCaron has been efficient, completing 11 of 15 passes for 144 yards.

Colorado State’s offensive production has been close to what Alabama has come up with so far, but the underdog Rams just cannot come up with any of the big plays they would need to start thinking about an upset.
