Nehemie Kankolongo‘s only tackle this year has landed him in hot water.
The Wyoming linebacker has been suspended for one game by the Mountain West Conference after being called out for ”targeting and initiating contact with the crown of the helmet,” the league announced on Monday.
Kankolongo leveled Air Force return man Anthony LaCoste during a kickoff return in the second quarter. LaCaste fumbled and Wyoming recovered to set up a touchdown. No penalty was called. Wyoming went on to a 56-23 victory.
Credit to LaCoste for being tough — he returned later in the game to score a touchdown.
However, the league later reviewed the tape and suspended Kankologo for this Saturday’s game against Texas State.
The league’s news release said the sanctions came after a “weekly review conducted by the Mountain West office of all player safety fouls and falls under NCAA Football Playing Rule 9-6-2.”
The release said the league would have no further comment.
