A car accident that claimed the life of a Cincinnati offensive lineman has claimed another.
The family of Sean VanDyne confirmed Monday night that the 18-year-old Miami (Ohio) student died as a result of injuries he suffered in Saturday night’s single-car accident. VanDyne, who was the driver of the vehicle, married his high school sweetheart Aug. 17 and had been best friends with Ben Flick (pictured) since second grade.
Flick, a true freshman lineman for the Bearcats, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident, which happened at around 10:20 ET Saturday and resulted in two of the four individuals being ejected from the vehicle, remains under investigation, although sheriff’s officials have stated that alcohol may have been a factor.
Two of Flick’s teammates, wide receivers Mark Barr and Javon Harrison, were in the car and injured in the accident. Barr, who along with VanDyne was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, remains hospitalized in critical condition while Harrison has been released.
