Report: Arizona State recruiting director resigns

Arizona State’s assistant athletic director in charge of recruiting has resigned following his arrest for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident, the Arizona Republic reported on Tuesday.

Sherman Morris stepped down on Friday. He joined the Sun Devils football program back in March after spending the previous six years as director of player personnel at LSU.

ASU had no comment on the matter, citing its personal nature.

Morris was arrested and charged with two felonies on Aug. 29 by Chandler, Ariz., police. One was for aggravated assault-physical injury and while the other was for aggravated assault-strangulation.

Citing court documents, the Associated Press reported that Morris allegedly grabbed his wife from behind and lifted her off the ground while choking her at their Chandler home. Police said Morris’ wife had bruises on her arm, broken teeth and a laceration that was still bleeding when officers arrived.

He was originally put on leave by ASU following his arrest.
