Top Baylor DB reportedly charged with assault

Baylor’s prolific offense has received most of the attention in 2013, but it’s a member of the other side of the ball making headlines Friday, albeit for all of the wrong reasons.

According to KWTX-TV in Waco, defensive back Ahmad Dixon was charged Thursday with misdemeanor assault.  An arrest warrant had been issued for the defensive back stemming from an incident Sept. 16.

While the details are scant at the moment, the details that are available are, well, odd.  From the station’s report:

A warrant issued for his arrest says Dixon assaulted a 21-year-old man back on Sept. 16 after Dixon believed the victim had broken into his home.

The victim did not require hospitalization but did suffer injuries to his face, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Dixon reportedly surrendered to police on Thursday.

BU has yet to publicly address the situation and what if any impact it will have on Dixon’s future availability.  The Bears have a bye this weekend before opening Big 12 play against West Virginia Oct. 5.

Dixon has started 29 straight games at cornerback — nickel or otherwise — and is currently tied for third on the team in tackles with 17.  He was named honorable mention All-Big 12 the past two seasons, and his named littered various preseason All-American and All-Conference teams.

Give him props for picking on someone his own size and not his girlfriend.

That said, the NCAA needs to suspend him from the first half of Baylor’s game this weekend to really send a message.

Time to reset the arrest counter.
