Connor Shaw injured, Gamecocks down early

Not many people -- well, this guy did -- gave UCF much of a chance in their game against South Carolina.

At least early on, the Golden Knights are, literally and figuratively, putting a hurting on the Gamecocks.

Just past the halfway point of the first quarter, starting quarterback Connor Shaw suffered an injury to his right (throwing) shoulder. Shaw, who suffered an injury to the same area last year, was ultimately taken into the locker room for further examination.

There has been no official word on the extent of the injury or if he will be able to return. Shaw has been replaced by Dylan Thompson.

The Knights jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to an impressive 75-yard opening drive in which quarterback Blake Bortles accounted for 70 yards of offense. On the play in which Shaw was hurt, UCF recovered his fumble near midfield but were unable to capitalize.

UPDATED 12:48 p.m. ET: Shaw is currently on the sidelines with his right arm in a sling and an ice bag on his shoulder. While a return has not been officially ruled out, it doesn’t look promising.
