Todd Gurley ‘day-to-day’ with sprained ankle

Whether or not Georgia has one of the top running backs in the country at its disposal this weekend remains to be seen.

Todd Gurley suffered a sprained ankle in the second quarter of the Bulldogs’ win over LSU Saturday. He did not return to the game, and was seen wearing a walking boot on the sidelines.

Updating Gurley’s status Sunday, head coach Mark Richt said the sophomore is “day-to-day” with the injury. Surgery of any kind has been ruled out, but his status for this weekend’s road trip to Tennessee won’t be determined until later on in the week.

“No surgery, nothing like that. Just gotta let it get as much treatment as you can, and get ready as soon as you can,” Richt said according to the Macon Telegraph.

Despite missing more than half of the last game, Gurley is No. 19 in the country and No. 3 in the SEC in rushing yards per game with 112.5.

If Gurley is unable to go Saturday, UGA would again turn to fellow sophomore Keith Marshall to handle a sizable chunk of the running game load. Filling in for Gurley against the Tigers, Marshall rushed for a season-high 96 yards on 20 carries. The 20 carries were a career-high, surpassing the 16 he had in the season opener against Clemson.
