Shaq Roland suspended for Gamecocks’ next two games, too

Expected to be without one of its top vertical threats in the passing game for a single game, South Carolina will instead won’t see his return for a couple of weeks down the road.

Steve Spurrier confirmed Tuesday that Shaq Roland will remain suspended for the Gamecocks’ next two games. That means the receiver will miss games against Kentucky and Arkansas, and will return (maybe) for the Oct. 19 game at Tennessee.

Roland was originally suspended for the UCF game for unspecified violations of team policies.

Through three games this season, Roland had been tops on the team in receiving yards with 161 yards and third in receptions with eight.

In addition to the surprising announcement on Roland, Spurrier also stated that he will make a decision on a starting quarterback Thursday. Connor Shaw injured his right (throwing) shoulder against UCF and was originally ruled out for “about 2-3 weeks.” However, the injury doesn’t appear to be as serious as originally thought as the OBC has yet to officially rule him out.

If Shaw is unable to play, Dylan Thompson would get the start.
