UConn makes change at QB, too

Tim Boyle

Head coach isn’t the only change in the offing for the UConn football program.

T.J. Weist, introduced as the Huskies’ interim head coach yesterday after Paul Pasqualoni was fired, announced Tuesday that true freshman Tim Boyle will start at quarterback in the Oct. 12 game against USF.  It will mark the first collegiate start for Boyle, who turns 19 Thursday.

It had previously been reported that Pasqualoni was considering making the switch to Boyle prior to his dismissal.

A three-star member of UConn’s 2013 recruiting class, Boyle was rated as the No. 25 pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 2 player at any position in the state of Connecticut.

Boyle will replace Chandler Whitmer, who had started the last 16 games (four this season, 12 last) for the Huskies.

The redshirt junior, however, has struggled for the vast majority of those starts.  This season, he was on pace to throw 18 interceptions after throwing 16 in 2012.  In 2012, his passing efficiency rating of 118.97 was 87th in the country; in 2013, he’s 92nd at 116.9.
