Torn patellar costs BC a starting defensive tackle

There’s still uncertainty as to whether Boston College will lose its game against Army this weekend to the government shutdown. What is a certainty for the Eagles, unfortunately, is that they’ve lost a starting member of their defense for not only this game but every 2013 game moving forward.

According to head coach Steve Addazio, starting defensive tackle Mehdi Abdesmad suffered a torn left patellar tendon in BC’s loss to Florida State this past weekend. As a result, the junior will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the damage.

Abdesmad’s loss is a big blow both literally and figuratively. The 6-7, 278-pound tackle has started the first four games of 2013 after starting eight last season. He’s tied for second on the team in tackles for loss (3.5) and is third in sacks (two).

Abdesmad will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by Jaryd Rudolph.
