Report: Alvarez, Haden expected to join playoff committee

It seems as though the College Football Playoff selection committee is starting to come together. Days after word broke out West Virginia athletics director Oliver Luck could be involved in the selection committee, supposedly to replace the retiring DeLoss Dodds of Texas, there is a report suggesting two more names could be added to the list to represent the Big Ten and Pac 12.

According to a report by CBSSports.com, Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez and USC AD Pat Haden are expected to join the new selection committee, which will be charged with choosing the four college football teams to participate in the new College Football Playoff. The new system goes in to place starting in the 2014 season. Both are highly respected within their respective conferences, and both look like the best potential candidates to represent each conference.

Alvarez has previously expressed interest in the committee and has not been one to shy away from sharing his opinions on the state of college football since leaving the sidelines as Wisconsin’s coach to take over as athletics director in Madison. Haden is one of the more visible ADs from the Pac 12 as well. It has been a busy week for Haden as well, between meeting with the NCAA to discuss a possible reduction in sanctions to firing Lane Kiffin and beginning to search for a new football coach.

The committee is expected to consist of anywhere between 12 and 18 members, and it is likely each conference will have at least one representative on the committee. If Luck, Alvarez and Haden are going to be a part of the committee, then the hopes look pretty solid for an honorable committee being put together.
