Report: LSU starting safety Craig Loston did not make trip to Starkville

LSU starting strong safety Craig Loston did not make the trip with his team when it traveled to Starkville to take on Mississippi State, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported on Saturday.

No reason was given for his absence, but Loston suffered an injury last weekend during the Tigers’ 44-41 loss to Georgia. It appears to be serious enough to keep him out of this game, at least.

The most likely replacement for Loston against the Bulldogs is Micah Eugene, who started in Loston’s place against Kent State earlier in the season.

Loston is a big hitter with great range and athleticism. He has 19 tackles, an interception and one pass break up so far this year. The Tigers are so deep in the secondary, though, they shouldn’t miss Loston too much for the time being. But they’ll definitely need his experience and skill later in the year when they face more talented offenses like Alabama and Texas A&M.

Eugene is a very familiar name. Did he play at LB at some point?

Lotson out of Houston’s Eisenhower High school, a cousin of former LSU WR and current Philly Eagle Russell Shepherd…..

Lotson was committed to Clemson originally, but once Tommy Bowden “resigned” so did he with the verbal commit he gave them.

hope he recovers from his injury…kid should be at least a 3rd round draft pick next year
