Auburn LB Cassanova McKinzy may miss West Carolina game

Cassanova McKinzy, Joe Morrow AP

Auburn linebacker Cassanova McKinzy sustained a stinger or sprain to his neck against Mississippi this past Saturday and therefore his status for the Tigers’ upcoming game with West Carolina is in doubt.

Tigers defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson said McKinzy’s neck was “real sore” and that the team’s medical staff wanted to evaluate him further after 48 hours.

McKinzy hurt himself against Ole Miss and then stayed down on the field for several minutes before being placed on a flat board and taken to the hospital. He later returned to the sidelines wearing a  neck brace and street clothes.

The sophomore is third on the team with 23 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.  If he can’t go versus WCU, he’ll likely be replaced by junior Justin Garrett.

Articles on this site occasionally start with a line to the extent of “get your snores out of the way” – usually on articles related to the renewing of regional rivalries (i.e. WVU-Marshall, Rutgers-Temple).

I don’t think anything could be less significant than an SEC player possibly sitting out a game against a 1-AA team.

@wustlumdnj, How about focusing on the health of the player who was taken off the field on a cart. Seems like the next opponent is fairly irrelevant.

Glad to hear that his injury was relatively minor all things considered.

You never like to see these injuries, no matter who you cheer for. Good to hear he’s okay

I thought this was a college football writer writing this article. If it really is then they need to do their homework, bc there is not a school called West Carolina. Auburn’s next opponent is Western Carolina. I’m sure most don’t care, but those writers are just lazy.
