Duke suspends DB for missing academic obligations

Failing to take care of his obligations in the classroom will cost Deondre Singleton (pictured, No. 33) some playing time, Duke head coach David Cutcliffe said Sunday.

The defensive back missed two academic obligations last week, the Durham Herald-Sun wrote, and as a result will serve a one-game suspension.  It appears Singleton cut a couple of classes, which led to the punitive measure.

Singleton will miss the Blue Devils’ game against Navy Saturday as a result of the suspension.

“It’s always disappointing to have to discipline a player,” Cutcliffe said. “He will accept his discipline and learn from it and move on.”

The true freshman has played in every game this season and has seen his playing time gradually increase since the opener.

Deondre Singleton needs to understand that cutting class at Duke is not going to be tolerated.
Good job by Coach Cutcliffe to effectively communicate that point.
