UAB does a midseason demotion at DC

Garrick McGee AP

While three FBS programs have already decided to ditch its head coach, another has decided that shuffling the chairs in the midst of a 1-4 start is the proper tack to take.

Sunday, UAB head coach Garrick McGee announced that he has demoted defensive coordinator Reggie Johnson and promoted Jimmy Williams to the same position.  Williams carries the title of assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach, and will apparently carry the coordinator title through the end of the 2013 season as well.

“Reggie is a very good football coach and a good friend, but at this time, I have decided to promote assistant head coach Jimmy Williams to defensive coordinator for the remainder of the season,” McGee said in a statement. “I feel like this move at this time gives us a chance this week against FIU, and for the rest of the season, to accomplish our goals.”

UAB is currently 118th of 123 FBS teams in scoring defense at 41.4 points allowed per game.
