Knee surgery in the offing for starting Cal corner

For the second time in three seasons, a knee injury could curtail Stefan McClure‘s year.

Thanks to the knee injury he suffered Saturday against Washington State, the Cal cornerback will be forced to undergo surgery to repair the damage. The medical procedure will be performed Wednesday, although the specific nature of the issue was not detailed.

Whether or not the injury is of the season-ending variety is undetermined.

“We’ll see at that point what it is,” head coach Sonny Dykes said when asked about its severity and its impact on the remainder of the year. “Could be 2-3 weeks, could be the season.”

McClure had started all five games this season and is currently third on the team in tackles with 28. He did not play at all in 2012 as he recovered from an injury to the same knee he suffered late in the 2011 season.
