Mike Davis issues apology for hit, comments

Mike Davis dives at the knee of Deon Broomfield

And now, with this development, I believe that we have come full circle on this particular story.

In response to an outcry over both his “block” on an Iowa State defensive player last Thursday night and his comments yesterday, Texas wide receiver Mike Davis has issued a statement through the university clarifying his stance on the entire imbroglio.

Here’s the statement, in its entirety:

“I would like to issue a full apology for not only the play that occurred with Deon Broomfield of Iowa State, but everything that has surrounded this issue. My comments yesterday were not intended to indicate that I would ever do anything illegal or malicious, and I would never have any intent of hurting anyone or doing anything else outside of the rules.”

“I would like to provide a full retraction of anything I said that wasn’t apologetic for the play last Thursday, and that I completely understand and accept the reprimand issued by the Big 12. I will do everything that I can to learn from all aspects of this situation and nothing like this will ever happen again”

“Most of all, I would like to apologize to Deon. He’s a great player, and I would like to make sure he knows that my intent was never to hurt him, and that I am not that kind of a player. Again, I am sorry for what happened on the field and everything that has happened around that. Also, I would like to apologize to Commissioner Bowlsby and the Big 12.”

The receiver was given a public reprimand Sunday by the Big 12 for what was widely viewed as a cheap shot on Broomfield, even as most thought a suspension was in order.  The day after the reprimand was issued, Davis was anything but the contrite player in the statement that was attributed to him today.

“If we have another run-pass situation, I’d do the same thing,” Davis said Monday when asked about the play. “If the defensive back’s loafing, he deserves to get cut.”

Maybe it’s just me, but yesterday’s comments seem much more sincere

I’m sure his words were heartfelt and this has been bothering him since yesterday….

“I’m sure his words were heartfelt and this has been bothering him since yesterday….”

Beat me to it. Does it get any more phony than this?

Glad to see someone finally got this bozo’s attention.

    Damage control anyone?…

The comments of yesterday were his true feelings; “If we have another run-pass situation, I’d do the same thing,” this statement shows an attempt to justify what most consider a cheap shot at the very least.

“If the defensive back’s loafing, he deserves to get cut.” Again another statement that displays the belief that he felt he had every right to deliver this hit despite play had ended.

Todays statements were forced. How could he justify this one day and then 24 hours later he feels the need to apologize….

Yeah, I’m thinking yesterday’s were his true feelings. Sounds like somebody got yelled at, handed a statement, and told, ” This is what you meant to say”.

Your all wrong. His words were takin out of context. Nothing to see here guys move along. Lmfao this guy is as phony as my opening statement. Suspend this loser or kick hom off the team. There is no place for this in any league ncaaf or nfl. Unless your ndamakong suh then its ok

I call Mike Davis a “punk” and a “thug”. I now retract those comments based on his latest comments which I choose to believe. It takes a man to admit when he made a mistake and so I give him credit for doing that. I’m happy that Deon Broomfield was not injured on the play but I don’t understand why a flag was thrown in any event. I also believe that Iowa St was “jobbed” out of a sure victory over Texas.

Still hoping this punk blows out a knee.

Too funny. At least five words in his apology that he has never used or understands.

These letters should have the law firm that wrote them on the letterhead.

If this guy can publicly spell the word “retraction”, then I’ll believe his apology. Until then, same ole’ Texas, same ole Texas players.

Translation – Dear Oklahoma, please don’t give me break me in half and then pull my jock strap up over my head.

  14. kedaco says: Oct 8, 2013 9:35 PM

RIGHT! Like he actually wrote and issued this “heartfelt apology”. This UT in full damage control trying cover its sorry A$$ for another punk and out of control player.

Well now, isn’t that the most warm and refreshing BS I’ve heard all week. Where are the smores and kumbaya? From punk ass to prince all in one day?? What’ll they think of next??

  16. amosalanzostagg says: Oct 8, 2013 11:04 PM

What happened is that the Texas players told Davis,

“You realize you just made every player on offense and defense a target for cheap shots by EVERY team we play the rest of the year?”

“Crap, we still have to play Tech, OSU, OU Baylor and TCU!”

    “Yep”

“Think the Texas SID can issue a press release saying I’m sorry?”

    “Mack already called”

    RTR

And now a University of Texas officially sanctioned youtube video of his straight from the heart apology.

I’ll give him props, at the very least, it looks like he can read.
