Air Force-SDSU Thursday to be played as scheduled

Even as the overriding stupidity on both sides of the D.C. aisle has entered its second week, there’s some clarity as it pertains to at least one of the service academies and its football game this week.

Air Force sent out a press release announcing that “we have been advised that all Air Force Academy intercollegiate athletics may resume immediately.” That means that the Falcons’ Mountain West matchup Thursday night against San Diego State in Colorado Springs will go off as scheduled.

The release did note that the Academy “is awaiting written final Department of Defense guidance,” although that appears to be merely a formality.

There’s no word yet on whether the government shutdown will affect the Navy’s road trip to Duke or Army’s home game against Eastern Michigan. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the government shutdown, official approval from the Department of Defense, which had suspended intercollegiate competition at all the academies, for the Air Force-Navy and Boston College-Army games wasn’t given until two days before they were scheduled to be played.
