UGA’s Michael Bennett undergoes surgery, expected back this season

Finally, there’s some good news amidst the injury carnage that is Georgia’s football roster.

Michael Bennett suffered a knee injury in UGA’s win over Tennessee this past Saturday, one of three Bulldogs to suffer injuries of varying degrees to that joint. As expected, Bennett underwent surgery Tuesday, the school announced, to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

The only timeline for the receiver getting back onto the field is the press release stating that he is “expected to return to the team at some point this season following completion of a rehab program.” Bennett had already been ruled out of the Missouri game this Saturday.

The junior is third on the team with 14 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

The news, of course, is not so good for UGA’s second-leading receiver. Redshirt sophomore Justin Scott-Wesley underwent surgery yesterday as well to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, and will undergo ACL reconstruction at a later, undetermined date.

Running back Keith Marshall also tore his ACL in the same game and will undergo reconstructive surgery at some point in the next three weeks.

Both Marshall and Scott-Wesley, the school wrote, “should be able to return to football without limitations with the start of” summer camp next year. That would also intimate neither will be available for spring practice, although such a development wasn’t specifically stated.
