Unfortunately, the end result is as bad as originally feared.

Cal confirmed Thursday that starting cornerback Stefan McClure has been lost for the season due to a knee injury he suffered this past weekend. McClure underwent surgery Wednesday, at which point it was determined that the damage was extensive enough that he would be sidelined for the remainder of the 2013 season.

The sophomore injured his knee, the specific nature of which wasn’t released by the school, in the loss to Washington State this past Saturday.

McClure had started all five games this season and is currently third on the team in tackles with 28. He did not play at all in 2012 as he recovered from an injury — to the same knee — he suffered late in the 2011 season.
