Even as they were undefeated through the first six weeks of the season, Missouri had failed to crack USA Today‘s Top 25 poll.
After Week 7, and a road win over a highly-ranked opponent, the Tigers have finally earned a modicum of respect from the coaches.
In the latest release of the coaches’ poll, Mizzou went from unranked all the way up to No. 14. Georgia, which had been No. 7 entering the weekend, tumbled all the way down to No. 16. The Bulldogs are, however, the highest-rated two-loss team.
Stanford, which was upset by unranked Utah, took its own tumble, dropping eight spots to No. 13. The third in the Top-10 triumvirate of Week 7 upsets, Oklahoma, also fell eight to No. 18 thanks to the loss to Texas, which remains unranked.
Alabama, Oregon, Clemson and Ohio State remained unchanged at Nos. 1-4, with Florida State moving into the Top Five at No. 5. That means that, officially and as expected, next Saturday’s game in Death Valley between the Tigers and Seminoles is officially a Top-Five matchup.
Louisville (No. 6) and Texas A&M (No. 7) each moved up two spots, while LSU (No. 8), South Carolina (No. 9 and behind Mizzou in the SEC East standings) and UCLA (No. 10) all climbed three each to round out the Top 10.
Florida, Michigan and Washington remained inside the Top 25 despite suffering their second losses of the season, coming in at No. 22, No. 24 and No. 25, respectively.
Northwestern, No. 18 last weekend, is the only team to fall out of this week’s poll. They were replaced, of course, by Mizzou.
