One of the top defensive players in the country that you probably haven’t heard of may be sidelined this weekend due to injury.
Colorado State’s Shaquil Barrett suffered an ankle injury in the first half of Saturday’s loss to San Jose State. While he returned to play for a period of time in the second half, he did so on a very limited basis because of the injury.
When asked about Barrett’s availability for the Wyoming game Saturday, head coach Jim McElwain said he’s unsure of how long the senior linebacker would be out.
McElwain’s update came after Barrett was sidelined for Monday’s practice session.
This season, Barrett has transformed himself into one of the most productive linebackers in the country. Exiting Week 7, he is tied for first nationally in tackles for loss with 12.5 and tied for third in sacks at 6.5. He’s tied for second and fifth, respectively, on a per-game average in those two categories.
