From the “Got Lost in Yesterday’s Shuffle” department comes official word that programs from the Big Ten and Pac-12 will be reconnecting with their Rose Bowl past quite a few years down the road.
Both Michigan and UCLA announced via press releases Thursday that they have agreed to a future home-and-home series. The Wolverines will host the Bruins Sept. 10, 2022, then travel to Los Angeles for a Sept. 2, 2023 game.
“This home-and-home series is one we believe fans of both universities, and fans of college football at the national level, will enjoy immensely,” said UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero. “We’re excited to face a quality opponent such as Michigan.”
The two programs have met 11 times, with the first coming in 1956 and the last in September of 2000. The Wolverines hold an 8-3 edge in the series.
Included among UCLA’s three wins was a 24-10 win in the Rose Bowl following the 1982 season. That bowl game served as a same-season rematch, with the Bruins also claiming a four-point victory in late September in the Big House. The Bruins’ only other win came in the last meeting between the teams.
