Gators down starting D-lineman for Mizzou game

The SEC in general and Florida (and Georgia) specifically have suffered an inordinate amount of injuries to key players throughout the first seven weeks of the 2013 season.

As we embark upon Week 8, the Gators have taken yet another injury hit.

According to ESPN.com, starting defensive lineman Damien Jacobs did not make the trip to Columbia and will not play in this afternoon’s game against unbeaten Missouri. The nose tackle suffered a head injury in the loss to LSU last Saturday.

The football program subsequently confirmed Jacobs will not play, ruling out the lineman along with linebacker Ronald Powell (knee). Powell is out with an ankle injury.

With Jacobs out, he becomes the seventh starter Florida will be down for the Mizzou game. The other five were lost to season-ending injuries.

Additionally, starting quarterback Tyler Murphy is dealing with some type of shoulder issue. Unlike the others, however, Murphy is expected to be able to play.
