Status of Toledo’s David Fluellen up in the air

Whether or not one of the nation’s top running backs will see the field in Week 9 remains very much a mystery.

In the fourth quarter of Toledo’s overtime win over Navy, David Fluellen left the game due to injury and did not return. Following the game, head coach Matt Campbell told reporters that Fluellen suffered an injury to his back.

Campbell, though, did not know the severity of Fluellen’s injury or if he will be available for a key MAC matchup with in-state rival Bowling Green this Saturday.

Fluellen is third nationally in rushing yards (999), fourth in yards per game (142.7) and tied for sixth in rushing touchdowns (10). In games against Florida and Missouri this season, Fluellen rushed for 46 yards (on nine carries) against the former and 111 yards (on 17 carries) against the latter.

The Rockets’ No. 2 rusher, Kareem Hunt, has 204 yards and two touchdowns.
