Auburn’s DC confirms season-ending injury for Josh Holsey

Unfortunately for Auburn, the speculation swirling around a starting member of its defense has been confirmed.

Tigers defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports, revealed Sunday that safety Josh Holsey will be lost for the remainder of the season due to an unspecified knee injury. Holsey suffered the injury during practice last Thursday and did not play in the win over Texas A&M that shot the Tigers upward in the latest set of rankings.

Johnson said he was unsure of the exact nature of the injury.

“It’s definitely one where the number of weeks, even if they don’t have to do any surgery, it would take to rest and rehab it, we’d be past the end of the year,” Johnson told the paper.

To add insult to literal injury, Holsey’s injury occurred on the final play of the practice session.

Holsey had started the first six games this season after starting six games as a true freshman in 2012. He was replaced in the starting lineup against A&M by Ryan White, who responded with his first career interception.
