USC opens placekicker competition

USC placekicker Andre Heidari is struggling, so interim head coach Ed Orgeron announced on Monday that his position would be open to competition this week.

Orgeron met with his special teams coach and noted that Heidari was experiencing “a technical problem.”

Heidari missed field goals of 40 and 46 yards against Notre Dame this past Saturday. He did make one from 22 yards, but the Trojans ended up losing to the Irish, 14-10.

The junior has regressed considerably from his freshman year when he made 15 of 17 field goals. He made 10 of 16 field goals last season and is six of 11 so far this year.

Walk-ons Alex Wood and Craig McMahon are the most likely candidates to replace Heidari this week.

    Competition is good.
If Hedari had gone 3 for 3, he might’ve had a chance to kick another one. But wait…..

If the O linew ere worth a crap in the 2nd half, USC would’ve had a chance to win. But wait….

If Lee had caught that ball in the end zone, USC would’ve won the game… All things being equal.

If USc had been able to run the ball into the end zone after the fumble recovery…… Well, you get the picture.

With all due respect sports fans, Haden has given up on this season, and just wantst he team to do what they can, without bringing in any redshirted players to provide depth. USc hasdecided to “look to the future” of thr next couple of years. I just hope Haden keeps CEO for next year anf let him bring in the right OC and OLine coaches, open up the competition for all positions…. Then pick a QB after Spring ball.

    Fight on everybody.
    Good luck against the Utes.

As a USC fan this is the best USC relate news I’ve read in about a year.

They’re 4-3 with a narrow home victory over USU. Perhaps they should consider casting a wider competition net.

Ok here is the deal as I see it from coaching and being a Trojan fan for over 50 years! The staff refuses to use some of the other 8 O lineman to either rest or replace the starting 5, who proved once again that they 5 of the worst lineman as a group as I have seen. None are dominant at all and the two tackles are less than agile. Both were beaten to the inside and outside repeatedly! Here is how I see this. The other lineman being held in reserve could not be worse than the starting 5, so give at least one or more a shot. Senior John Martinez continues to sit on the bench while Aundrey Walker (70) chases his man around the field! The only O lineman I would not replace is the center. Hobbi is doing a pretty good job and no bad snaps. If we cannot convert on 3rd down better than Saturday (2/13) then we will not win again this season.

On the kicker, Heidari is pushing kicks right and just needs to follow through. He is short legging the kicks like golf where you use too much dominant arm and slice it or he can take a half step to his right after his setup. I was a kicker and know his issue.

Coach Roy: the center on this team is Marcus Martin, not C. Hobbi. who is the back up. Since it appears to be a waisted year again, I’d like to see max brown forgo his redshirt and be put in as the starting QB. That’s 5 games this year to work thru the newness a young QB goes thru. So next year he is considered a simi Vet. I know coach O wants to try to win now and doing this wont help his chances at staying the HC. But it is the right thing to do. The 2 upper class men we’ve seen are just average. We can’t win with them. Make a move coach O.

Thanks for straightening me out on the center. I usually look at the depth chart on my desk, but am traveling now. Not sure what they can do as we just do not seem to have depth and dominating talent in the O line!? I would just try someone who is more physical than Chad Wheeler on the back side.

Actually, Kessler has been throwing some very nice balls. Problem is the WRs are not catching these catchable balls. I’m sick for these guys who are playing their hearts out and other team members seem to have either given up or are just not very good players.

O-line needs a swift kick in the butt, as do the two O-line coaches. Kick their butts outta here now, if we lose this weekend, and give CEO an oppty to bring in a decent O-line coach whom he’s familiar with.

As for the “duklover” commentary…. Don’t be a dick. Stick to you own boards and stay off ours. Your commentary is just wasted space, such as that between your ears. Geez!
