USC opens placekicker competition

USC placekicker Andre Heidari is struggling, so interim head coach Ed Orgeron announced on Monday that his position would be open to competition this week.

Orgeron met with his special teams coach and noted that Heidari was experiencing “a technical problem.”

Heidari missed field goals of 40 and 46 yards against Notre Dame this past Saturday. He did make one from 22 yards, but the Trojans ended up losing to the Irish, 14-10.

The junior has regressed considerably from his freshman year when he made 15 of 17 field goals. He made 10 of 16 field goals last season and is six of 11 so far this year.

Walk-ons Alex Wood and Craig McMahon are the most likely candidates to replace Heidari this week.
