As expected, South Carolina will have a new/old face under center when it takes the field this weekend.
Dylan Thompson, head coach Steve Spurrier confirmed, will get the start at quarterback in place of the injured Connor Shaw. The senior suffered a severely sprained knee in the loss to Tennessee and was listed as “doubtful” by Spurrier a day later.
Spurrier stated that while Shaw may dress for the Missouri game, but, as far as Thompson is concerned, “it’ll be his game to go with.”
This won’t exactly be Thompson’s first starting rodeo. The redshirt junior started two games in place of an injured Shaw last season after spending 2011 as Stephen Garcia‘s backup.
Thompson has seen action in six of seven games in 2013, completing 29 of his 51 passes for 421 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also thrown two interceptions.
