Insert the obligatory “the hits just keep on coming” line, because Florida has lost another player for the year due to an injury.Backup linebacker Jeremi Powell was lost for the remainder of the season after tearing his left ACL in Florida’s loss at Missouri last weekend.
Powell, playing mostly special teams this season for the Gators, injured his ACL while playing on the punt return team, attempting to block a punt.
“Unfortunate for him,” Florida head coach Will Muschamp said Wednesday. “He’s a guy who was really emerging special teams-wise.”
If you have lost track by now, nobody would blame you. Florida has lost a good number of players for the rest of the 2013 season, which will make getting through the second half of the season a difficult task for Florida. Florida has also lost quarterback Jeff Driskel, defensive tackle Dominique Easley, right tackle Chaz Green, running back Matt Jones, receiver and kick returner Andre Debose, linebacker Matt Rolin, defensive back Nick Washington to a variety of injuries.
Depth on Florida’s roster now is a huge concern that could force the Gators to adjust the way they practice. It is almost as though Florida’s roster was hit with heavy sanctions when you consider the depth concerns on the roster at this point.
