Unfortunately, Antonio Allen‘s first career start will also be his last for quite a while.
Allen, head coach Kevin Wilson announced Tuesday, suffered a torn ACL in Indiana’s wild 63-47 loss to Michigan Saturday. As a result, obviously, the freshman safety will miss the remainder of the 2013 season.
Allen had replaced three-year starter Mark Murphy for the Wolverines game, with the Indianapolis Star writing "[h]e is considered one of the most talented players on an otherwise deficient defense.”
As a backup for most of the first seven games, Allen has been credited with 35 tackles. That total is good for seventh on a team bereft of playmakers on that side of the ball.
