Season-ending injury for starting USC LB

And the hits just keep on coming for the USC football program.

Interim head coach Ed Orgeron confirmed Wednesday that linebacker Lamar Dawson incurred a knee injury that will cost him the remainder of the 2013 season. Dawson, who suffered the injury during Tuesday’s practice, will undergo surgery at some point in the near future to repair the unspecified damage.

I kind of knew it, but I was hoping for the best at the same time,” the player said according to the Los Angeles Times.

Dawson had started all seven games for the Trojans this season. He’s tied for fourth on the team in tackles with 35, and has been credited with 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

The news on Dawson came one day after the school confirmed that second-leading rusher Justin Davis would be lost for the season due to an ankle injury. Orgeron confirmed yesterday that Davis has already undergone surgery.
