Report: Chelf to get the start at QB for Cowboys

Oklahoma State is apparently headed back to where it began the 2013 season at the quarterback position. Reportedly.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad reported late Friday night that Clint Chelf will get the start at quarterback for the Cowboys against Iowa State. Head coach Mike Gundy declined to publicly tip his hand as to a starter earlier this week, and just who will lineup under center likely won’t be officially known until shortly before kickoff.

After throwing a pair of interceptions in just over a quarter of play, J.W. Walsh was yanked in favor of Chelf in last weekend’s win over TCU.

Chelf started the season opener but was pulled after just two series. Walsh has started the last five games, although his play has been suspect throughout; the sophomore is currently 68th nationally and fifth among Big 12 quarterbacks in passing efficiency.

Walsh does lead the Cowboys with 284 yards rushing, a dynamic Chelf doesn’t bring to the table.
