Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota continued to lead the USA Today’s weekly Heisman poll released on Monday.
The sophomore used his team’s win over No. 12 UCLA to forge a 15-point lead over second-place Jameis Winston of Florida State. The weekly poll surveys 22 Heisman voters in the Gannett organization.
Defending Heisman winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M was a distant third, followed by Bryce Petty of Baylor and A.J. McCarron of Alabama.
We could see some separation from the pack in the next 12 days as Mariota takes on Stanford on Nov. 7, Winston takes on Miami on Nov. 2, Petty takes on Oklahoma on Nov. 7 and McCarron takes on LSU on Nov. 9.
The Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Dec. 14.
