Rutgers to wear special helmets to raise awareness for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts

Kyle Flood AP

Has it really been a year since Hurricane Sandy inflicted its damage on the East Coast?

For those of you who forgot, the Rutgers football team is here to remind you. The Scarlet Knights will wear special helmets this Saturday against Temple to draw attention to the continued need to provide relief for the victims of the vicious storm.

The largest Atlantic hurricane on record killed 286 people and levied over $68 billion in damage, a figure surpassed only by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The helmets feature the Rutgers ‘R’ over an outline of the state of New Jersey and were revealed by head coach Kyle Flood on Monday. Have a look:

Somebody should wear a helmet designed to raise awareness of raising awareness. We’re not raising enough awareness these days.
