Starting Rutgers CB charged with DUI, suspended

For a team that’s depleted in the secondary as it is, this is the last thing Rutgers needs.

In team-speak, head coach Kyle Flood announced Sunday, cornerback Nadir Barnwell has been suspended for at least one game for what was termed as a violation of unspecified team rules. Realistically, the Newark Star-Ledger reported, the freshman was busted on a drunk-driving charge early Sunday morning, leading to the suspension.

Flood stated that the suspension will be for at least this weekend’s game, but the time the 18-year-old defensive back will actually miss is still a fluid situation.

“My plans are for it to be for this week, but it’s not finalized yet,” the head coach said.

According to the Star-Ledger, Barnwell was charged by university police with both driving under the influence and careless driving. The details of what led to the arrest and charges are not yet known.

Barnwell had started the last four games at corner for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers has already lost one full-time starter at the position to a season-ending injury and another veteran, part-time starter to baseball.

The paper writes that the Knights “will be down to four corners for the Temple game,” a group that would include a redshirt freshman and two true freshman.

    The whole team
may have been drunk while playing, considering the amount of points given up against Houston.

Getting a DUI on the RU campus takes some talent. There’s buses connecting all the major campuses (Livingston, Busch, College Av, & Douglas) and a highway bisects the middle of the middle, which the Campus PD really don’t monitor. I’m sure he got popped on Easton ave or College Ave.
