Georgia TB Todd Gurley back at practice

Georgia’s backfield fortunes are looking up as tailback Todd Gurley returned to practice for the Bulldogs this week. The talented sophomore is expected to play against Florida on Saturday after missing the last three-and-a-half games due to an high ankle sprain suffered against LSU.

According to Georgia fullback Quayvon Hicks, the return of Gurley is about more than just his running ability.

“He’s like the motivation to keep us working,” Hicks said. “He’s like that clown (where) you may mess up on this play, but he’s gonna put a smile on your face the next play and say, Don’t worry about it. So not only having him out there as a running back, but having him out there as a leader.”

One positive offshoot of Gurley being out has been the development of the young guys who took his place. Freshmen J.J. Green and Brendan Douglas were both productive and flashed ability at times. Now, they’ll be able to spot Gurley as he gets back into playing shape.

The Bulldog got some other good news when receiver Michael Bennett also returned to practice, though he was wearing a non-contact jersey. He’ll like play against Florida and try to fill the role played by leading receiver Chris Conley, who is nursing an ankle sprain and will likely not play on Saturday against the Gators.
