Please, please, please contain your excitement as this is well down the scheduling road.

Still, Illinois and Virginia announced Wednesday that the two football programs have agreed to a future home-and-home series.  The two games are scheduled for Sept. 11, 2021, in Charlottesville and Sept. 10, 2022, in Champaign.

“This series with Virginia is a great addition to our future schedules,” a statement from Illini athletic Mike Thomas read. “We set out to schedule games against peer institutions and we were able to do that with this series.”

Both of the previous meetings between the schools have come in the postseason: the 1990 Florida Citrus Bowl and 1999 MicronPC.com Bowl.  The Illini won both of those matchups.

In addition to the Illini series, UVa. also announced a one-off against Central Michigan in 2016.  A specific date will be announced at some point in the future.
