WKU indefinitely suspends top LB Andrew Jackson

One of the top linebackers in the Sun Belt Conference will not see the playing field this weekend due to an off-field issue, Western Kentucky announced Wednesday.

In a press release, head coach Bobby Petrino confirmed that Andrew Jackson will not travel to or play in this weekend’s game against Georgia State. The linebacker could miss additional time as well as he’s been indefinitely suspended for what was only described as an unspecified violation of team rules.

The coach did allow that Jackson could return for the Nov. 9 non-conference game against Army if certain conditions are met.

“Andrew did not meet the expectations we put forth every week for all of our players. There are certain conditions in place for him to meet before he returns to the team, and if he meets those conditions, he will be welcomed back for the Army game.”

Jackson is currently second on the team in tackles with 59 and third in tackles for loss with 4.5. In the run-up to the start of the 2013 season, Jackson was voted as the Preseason SBC Defensive Player of the Year.
