The Paul Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Award Watch List was released Friday evening. The list includes 20 coaches and includes coaches who have been in charge of dominant programs and some who have turned things around at heir respective programs. Alabama’s Nick Saban and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer are included on the list. So is Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech and Gary Pinkel at Missouri.

here is the complete list of candidates for the award, which will be presented January 15, 2014 in Houston. A list of finalists will be announced in early December. If playing a cupcake schedule entitles a coach to win coach of the year,then Meyer should win by a landslide.

    Coach Paul Bear Bryant gave new meaning to piss drunk when he used to sit in his own piss at local bars after getting hammered.

    The top 5 should be(no particular order) Malzhan, Pinkel, $aban, Kingsbury, and Fisher.

  4. thefiesty1 says: Nov 1, 2013 8:45 PM

    Briles should be first up. He’s at Baylor for God’s sake. That’s a miracle.

  5. afrancis55 says: Nov 1, 2013 9:33 PM

    Any of the people giving me thumbs down care to elaborate why? I have Malzhan/Pinkel there because look at the way they’ve turned around their respective teams, Saban because he continues to plow through every team, Kinsbury because look what he’s down with not one but TWO freshman QB in his first year, and Fisher because he’s finally got FSU over the hump, and also they’re the most balanced team int he country right now.

    @afrancis55 …

    I gave you a thumb’s down for the dollar sign in Nick Saban’s name. Otherwise, I’d be pretty much in agreement. Next time, try sticking to football without the asinine editorial asides.

    Speaking of asses …

    @liverpoolred04 …

    See you’re living down to the classless reputation of Liverpool fans. I’m just sure you spent oodles of time with Bear Bryant :roll:

    I thumbed down your list because it did not include Helfrich, who has stepped into very large shoes and kept stride. I am definitely a Duck Homer, and when we aren’t playing well, or lack a key component for a championship season, I admit it. This is not one of those years. I beg to differ from your opinion of who the most well rounded team in the country is.

  9. Deb says: Nov 1, 2013 11:25 PM

    Helfrich … yes, I’d include him on my list as well.

    afrancis, Baby you can tell the truth on here and there’s some that find offense to it just as if everything they say’s gospel and notably can’t handle the truth. Don’t worry cause Karma will come back and get em. For what it’s worth I saw nothin wrong with what you’ve said. And like the cliche goes Karma’s a bitch.

  11. suprmous says: Nov 1, 2013 11:55 PM

    apunhead, you left one off. And for what it’s worth it’s not worth gettin into cause folks know me well enuff to know who I’m talkin bout.

    Hey Deb spoken like a true biased fan that has a case of don’t give a damn about anyother college team that may be a winner. Way to go and still nice to know you can still roll your eyes at those you believe that are beneath you and aren’t worthy of voicin an opinion. My my what it must be like to live in your own l’il world of grandure.

    What David Cutcliffe is doing at duke should earn him a seat at the table.

    That was yet another personal attack on me because I dared to say I didn’t appreciate the dollar sign the guy posted in my coach’s name. For years you attack Nick Saban because he left LSU, and if anyone contradicts you, then you attack them and declare they think everything they say is gospel blah blah blah. The reality is that YOU are the one making all the attacks. Rather than respond to your constant whining, I rolled my eyes. And you started spewing more attacks.

    I wish you’d just be a GOOD SPORT, stop attacking my coach and ME. But apparently you aren’t mature enough for that. If someone attacked LES MILES in EVERY POST, you’d be SCREAMING to high heaven on here because that’s pretty much what you do anyway.

    @skwackquackwoof …

    Apparently Helfrich isn’t the most popular candidate suggestion. But even though he was the OC, it’s impressive that he’s stepped into the HC position without missing a beat. If I had to choose today, though, I’d lean toward Malzahn or Pinkel. That’s why I’m glad they wait until post-season to give out this award. I’m anxious to see how Pinkel rebounds from last weekend.

  17. skwackquackwoof says: Nov 2, 2013 2:00 PM

    I feel the same way Deb. I just want my guy in the conversation.

  18. Deb says: Nov 2, 2013 2:34 PM

    @skwackquackwoof …

    It’s nice to see your guy get his due. But a couple of things always put awards in perspective for me:

    The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t win a single playoff game for the first 40 years of their existence. Yet Chuck Noll was never named Coach of the Year for building them into the only team ever to win four Super Bowls in six years.

    Neither Andy Griffith nor Jackie Gleason ever won an Emmy.

    Miss Roll Your Eyes, I’ve taken in more heat than you can count and yet somehow I’m still standin. You wouldn’t know the times if they hit you in your ass. All of you who seem I can’t take things don’t know me very well. I dare say that any of you ever will but let me say this loud and clear BITE ME BUZZARDS AND BUZZARDETTE(S). I can at least stand up and admit I don’t feel inferior and act as if I’m above anyone else and treat others as if I’m better, I’m biased, go around actin as if they’ve got a target on their back and I’ve got to shoot at em and knock em down, and the list goes on. So Miss Diva, continue to roll your eyes, act as you do about bein holier than thou, throw judgment around, join in with the others who’re biased, etc and have a grand old time at feelin as if you’re better and above all have a grand old time while you’re doin it by all means.

  20. suprmous says: Nov 4, 2013 1:55 AM

    hey Miss Roll Your Eyes, not that I’m a follower but you should ask those from Michgan and Miami how they feel bout Saban’s leavin them for other places. I dare say I’m not the only one who’ll have you up in arms and your hackles up. Course those from Michgan really don’t like discussin the issue and you’d prolly have a hellva time talkin to them. But wise up and realize I’m not in the boat by myself. but in there with many. As for attackin you, remember ye without problems cast the first stone at somebody else? You sure as hell can’t call me black and not look at yourself or can you?

    The coach of the year award is college football’s – ‘Special Olympics – can’t believe you didn’t impale yourself’ trophy. Give it to Kevin Sumlin for his courageous suspension of Johnny Douchebag for an entire half!!!

    You know, Pete Lembo won’t really get any attention because he isn’t the coach of a huge, national championship, Grade-A football school. But when it comes to the true aspects of a coach, he truly deserves it. He puts so much enthusiasm and heart into every game and practice, that some of the upper level coached don’t have. He loves the fans, and always wants to be with them. The players respect the kind of man he is, and the Cardinals are more of a family, more than a team. They are also 8-1 in the MAC.

    After I read “Brady Hoke – Michigan,” I had to go back up to the top and re-read the headline to make sure I was still on the same page.

    Then I laughed again.
