NIU’s Jordan Lynch puts up five touchdowns against UMass

Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch continued his long-shot attempt to make it to New York as a Heisman finalist, totaling five touchdowns running and passing in his team’s 63-19 win over Massachusetts on Saturday.

Lynch rushed for 119 yards and scored four touchdowns on 17 carries and completed 10 of 13 passes for 160 yards and a score. He now has 1,150 rushing yards, 1,871 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns on the year (he’s also caught a receiving TD).

That puts him on pace to have 2,706 passing yards, 1,661 rushing yards and 45 total touchdowns by the time Heisman votes are due. Will that be enough to get him to New York?

Considering he finished seventh last season while putting up even better numbers, you’d have to think it’s a remote possibility. But, hey, this is college football. Stranger things have happened.
