Former South Carolina RB Kenny Miles in stable condition after being shot

Former South Carolina running back Kenny Miles is in stable condition after being shot during a robbery attempt in Irmo, S.C., on Monday afternoon.

The injuries were at first thought to be life threatening, but Miles has apparently come through okay after medical treatment.

Deputies say a little after 1 p.m., a suspect shot Miles in the upper body at the Dutch Fork Business Park in the 100 block of Centrum Drive, which is just off Highway 176.

According to Deputy Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect confronted Miles at that location, and the two argued. Wilson said the suspect may have been trying to take money and a USC championship ring from Miles.

Wilson says Miles’s injuries are no longer deemed life-threatening, adding that the former player is in stable condition.

Miles rushed for 1,341 yards and four touchdowns during his career at South Carolina. He led the Gamecocks as a true freshman in 2009 with 626 yards before backing up Marcus Lattimore the rest of his career.
