A pair of players who took part in two decidedly different styles of football games Saturday claimed national honors Sunday.
The Walter Camp Foundation announced yesterday that Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr and Michigan State linebacker Denicos Allen were named the National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Carr completed 39-of-55 passes for 487 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten with a 41-23 win over Nevada. Carr also added a rushing touchdown, just his second such score of the season.
This is the second time Carr has earned Camp honors, the first coming in November of last season.
In the Spartans 29-6 win over in-state rival Michigan, Allen was credited with nine tackles, three tackles for losses and sacks. The senior joins teammate Shilique Calhoun (Week 2) as Spartans who have been accorded weekly Camp honors this season.
