The mother of Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott has lost her lengthy battle with cancer, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported.
Peggy Prescott, the paper stated, died Sunday morning at the age of 52. In addition to Dak, her youngest child, Peggy Prescott is survived by sons Tad and Jace.
Peggy Prescott had been undergoing chemotherapy in an attempt to stave off the ravages of colon cancer. Monday morning, head coach Dan Mullen released a statement through the university.
“The Mississippi State football family is completely saddened by the passing of Dak Prescott’s mom, Peggy,” Mullen said. “They shared an extraordinary mother-son relationship. We know Dak will carry on her great strength and kindness. Please pray for Dak and his family as they go through this difficult time. We also kindly ask that you please respect their privacy.”
While it’s inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, it’s unclear what Prescott’s availability will be for the Bulldogs’ game this Saturday on the road against Texas A&M. Prescott has started six of eight games this season, including the last two.
Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Prescott and his brothers on their loss.
