Can we just fast forward to The Iron Bowl now? Auburn (9-1, 5-1 SEC ) thrashed Tennessee (4-6, 1-5 SEC) in Knoxville Saturday afternoon by a score of 55-23 to improve to 9-1 on the year.
Auburn returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown and Tre Mason rushed for two scores in the second half as Auburn pulled away from Tennessee after getting to halftime with a wild 34-20 lead. Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall only attempted five passes but led all players with 214 rushing yards and two touchdowns as Auburn’s offense was just too much for Tennessee to handle.
Auburn has now won ix straight games since losing their only game of the season at LSU back in September. three wins in this run have been by 30 points or (much) more as the offense has scored at least 30 points in every game while the defense has not allowed more than 23 points in any game except for a victory at Texas A&M. This Auburn team has clearly found their identity and are now looking to pose the biggest threat to Alabama at the end of the regular season. Auburn has two final games to play and both will come at home. First up will be Georgia next week. The Tigers then get a bye week before hosting Alabama. If Auburn wins their final two games of the season, it will be the Auburn Tigers in the SEC Championship Game and not Alabama.
Of course, Alabama still has to get through LSU tonight...
