Big weekend coming up for SEC East race

Mizzou may be on a bye this weekend, but its path to Atlanta could become clear.

Georgia has a tough task, needing a win at Auburn to remain in the SEC East title hunt. Mizzou fans should be rooting for the Bulldogs to pull off the upset, since if Mizzou, Georgia and South Carolina all finish 6-2 in the SEC, Mizzou will win the East.

South Carolina welcomes Florida to Columbia on Saturday, too, and a win coupled with a Georgia loss would put the heat on Mizzou to beat both Ole Miss and Texas A&M to finish the season. If the banged-up Gators somehow pull out of their tailspin and beat South Carolina, it’d allow Mizzou to go 1-1 and make the SEC title game.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s Dave Matter ran down all the possible SEC East scenarios, and obviously if Mizzou wins out they’ll win the East with a 7-1 conference record. But winning at Ole Miss and beating Texas A&M in back-to-back weeks may be a tall order.

The good (or bad) news is Mizzou will know what it has to do by Saturday night to earn a berth in the SEC title game.

    M-i-z-z-o-u were going to win them both just to leave no doubt we deserve to be in Atlanta this yr. Watch out bama you guys did beat Lsu but I seen some chinks in the armor namely poor secondary play. Missouris wr corp is much better than lsu’s.

    Oh shut up… You guys couldn’t even beat a mediocre South Carolina team at home let alone a dominant Alabama team at a neutral location swarming with bama fans.

    OHH REAALLLLYYYY!! A mediocre South Carolina team you say! With the Head Ball Coach at the helm, I wouldn’t be so quick to label the Fighting Gamecocks as “mediocre”. Remember, we play Florida, a once beaten Coastal Carolina team and then we finish up with Clemson. No easy schedule to say the least. But the Defense is improving and the offense has been productive all season. We can stay with any team in the country… and I mean ANY TEAM.

    Glad to see Missouri doing well even if overrated and hope they win out in regular season. Bama’s real test will be Auburn. Better teams than Mizzou have lost in the SEC championship game.

    I’m looking forward to A&M v Mizzou.

    If both teams can win the week before it will be a hell of a game with some pretty big implications on the line for both schools.

    Jack, please remember that Mizzou was without their starting QB and missed an easy field goal. There is no way that SC should have tied, let alone won that game in OT. SC is coming on a roll as they’re now 3-6 against the spread this year and looking for new fifth place rings.

    No matter who represents the east, Bama is going to beat them by at least 3 TDs, probably 4 or 5. UGA might have given them a fight like last year, but have lost far too many offensive skill players this year.

    @jonkybon
    This coming from a fan of a team with NO players whom have ever beaten a South Carolina team. #5 coming soon.

    @floridacock, you make a lot of assumptions with all your names. I am a Georgia fan first and formost. Between the two SC schools, I can only root for Clemson as I find the Ole Drunk contemptable as well as a large majority of the Lamecocks blowhard fans. Y’all have the ego of Bama fans and the football trophy case of Vandy. Oh wait, Vandy actually won football championships and rarely were sanctioned. You have one of the highest rates of players turned convicts and over the last four years have had the most felonies charges brought against your athletes. You have one of, if not the easiest enrollments of all the state Universities. Y’all pretend that no records were kept before 2009 or you’d realize Clemson owns y’all in every sport but football especially.

    Apparently not many on these feel South Carolina is worthy…..time will tell. We NEVER say die at Carolina!
