Taylor Martinez could be done at Nebraska

Taylor Martinez may not play another snap with Nebraska due to a slew of lingering injuries.

The latest one, a foot injury, hasn’t improved to the point where coach Bo Pelini can expect Martinez to return this season.

Nebraska needs a win over Michigan State this weekend in Lincoln to move into the driver’s seat in the Big Ten’s Legends division. But facing one of the nation’s top defenses without Martinez, who holds Nebraska records for total offense, touchdown passes and passing yards certainly complicates the Huskers’ odds of a berth in the Big Ten Championship.

Even if Nebraska were to knock off Michigan State, the Huskers still have a trip to Penn State and a home game against Iowa to end the season. Again, without Martinez, that’s a tall order for a team that needed a Hail Mary to beat Northwestern and barely sneaked by a freefalling Michigan side last weekend.

Update: ESPN’s Joe Schad reports Martinez could need six to eight months to recover from his foot injury. Yikes.

He showed so much promise his freshman year and never really seemed to improve from there. Injuries have killed any chance of fulfilling that potential this year. What a shame. Good luck Big Red.

Much respect for this kid. When I first saw him, I thought he would never make a decent qb. Her proved me wrong.

so how did he hurt his foot? Did it happen in a game, practice or did he fall out of his girlfriend’s bed while calling an audible?

The future is now. Ride Armstrong through thick and thin. Keep Kellogg as backup only. GBR!!!

Martinez holds a bunch of the Nebraska passing records, and yet he wouldn’t make it onto any list of the top Nebraska quarterbacks of all time.

Holding passing records for a school nowadays is meaningless, especially at a school like Nebraska where for their first billion years they ran the option. Jacory Harris owns Miami Hurricanes passing records and he wouldn’t even crack their top 10 best QB’s of all time! If you ask me Martinez has been slightly above average for his career. First half he was steller but last 2 years he’s been on the decline. And yes, injuries probably is a chunk of the reason for his decline!
